Scratch programming language in Khmer? IT'S HERE!

Learning opportunities for Cambodian children to become digitally literate are still few and far between. Barriers to learning range from access to computers (yet alone internet connectivity), to prohibitive pricing of the limited after-school classes in technology. One barrier to global learning is that the majority of programming languages are based on a Latin alphabet, but for aspiring Khmer students, we have some great news… the first version of the free, block-based coding language - Scratch - is now available in Khmer!! This marks the completion of their 5-week creative coding course powered by Saturday Kids, that aspires to enable the next generation of curious, resourceful and self-motivated learners. Raintree is offering a very special marketing apprenticeship, where you will be trained by the Vice President of Marketing Communications from one of Singapore’s top banks. She will be hands-on training the team to design a new 12-month marketing and communications strategy for Raintree, incorporating existing project activities and any of your own creative ideas! This is a rare opportunity to be trained in a fast-paced environment, learning how to create an integrated communications strategy, with the potential for both part-time or full-time employment with Raintree following the apprenticeship. Coding Party @ the Canopy

As part of Raintree’s mission to enable capacity-building and education programs in Cambodia, we are so excited to announce a brand new program launching in April this year. In partnership with the fantastic Saturday Kids from Singapore, Coding Cats is a 5-week program for students aged 15-18 years old, with a playful curriculum based on Scratch, a block-based visual coding language. Generously supported by USAID’s Development Innovations, we are looking for people passionate about technology and education to become trainers, with the opportunity to be trained in the flagship Saturday Kids pedagogy and a chance to visit their campus.
