Revealing Christmas @ Raintree: Siem Reap comes to the city!

As the cool season slowly creeps in, the most beautiful time of the year is upon us. Christmas is coming! We know, we know... it’s only November. But knowing what we have in store with you, we can no longer contain our excitement. Revealing the next Christmas @ Raintree, where the season comes alive through creative pop-up stalls, scrumptious foods and drinks, live music and of course plenty of instagrammable spots.

Any place can string up a few lights and call it a holiday celebration, but Christmas @ Raintree has so much more to offer. This year’s theme ‘Siem Reap in the City’ brings some of our favourite Siem Reap artisans to our rooftop space for the last weekend of this month - Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November.

Why Siem Reap?

Ultimately, I want others to experience what Siem Reap has given to me.
— Hok Kang

We always want to show the best side of Cambodia. So when we discovered the first design publication focusing on the iconic city of Siem Reap was being published this year, we wanted to get involved. Raintree is super excited to co-host the pre-launch of the beautiful book Siem Reap: A Designer’s Perspective by prolific designer and photographer Nataly Lee and well-loved architect Hok Kang (and of course, one of our co-founders too!)

Venturing beyond the conventional portrayal of temples, museums and rice fields, the book celebrates contemporary Cambodian culture in all its forms. It features the finest design, crafts, architecture, and cuisine found in the city amidst the ancient temples of Angkor. Readers will discover the most inspirational places, spaces, and faces of Siem Reap, and delve into their many stories through intentional curation for the discerning traveller, as well as those interested in style and design.

The city holds a special meaning for Hok. “For me, Siem Reap is a retreat - a sanctuary I can escape to. As an architect, I am continuously looking for inspiration in the arts and crafts. I am excited to see the remarkable growth of the creative community in Siem Reap,” said Hok. “Ultimately, I want others to experience what Siem Reap has given to me.”
